Frequently Asked Questions

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a gentle, hands-on (or distance) energy healing technique that supports your body, mind, and spirit to relax, release, and realign. It works by channeling universal life force energy to where it’s most needed, helping to restore balance and promote deep inner healing. More info here.

What can Reiki help with?

Reiki can support you on many levels, including:

  • Emotional healing

  • Physical tension and pain

  • Mental clarity and focus

  • Stress reduction and relaxation

  • Spiritual connection and energetic alignment

Many people report feeling lighter, calmer, clearer, or more grounded after a session. More info here. Check out my podcast episode “What is Reiki?”

What happens during a Reiki session?

We start the session by having a chat about your intention for the healing. Once you’re ready, you'll be invited to lie down fully clothed in a calm, cozy space. I’ll begin with a meditation to help you ground into the space. Then I’ll gently place my hands on or just above your body, allowing Reiki to flow where it’s needed. You may feel warmth, tingling, waves of emotion, or simply deep rest. Every experience is unique and perfect for where you're at.

Do I need to believe in Reiki for it to work?

No. Reiki is not a religion or belief system. It's a natural, intelligent energy that flows regardless of belief. Simply being open to the experience allows it to work in the way your system needs most.

What does Reiki feel like?

Most people describe feeling deeply relaxed, peaceful, and sometimes emotional or tingling sensations. Some experience visual imagery, energetic shifts, or even a sense of “coming home” to themselves. Even if you feel nothing physical, the energy is still working. It can take 2-3 days after a session for energetic shifts to integrate.

What if I don’t feel anything during a session?

Not feeling physical sensations is completely normal. Reiki energy flows in the way your body and spirit need, whether that’s subtle or very obvious.

Is Reiki safe?

Yes. Reiki is gentle, non-invasive, and safe for everyone. It works in harmony with your body and any medical or therapeutic treatments you may be receiving.

Is Reiki a substitute for medical treatment?

Reiki is a complementary therapy, not a substitute for medical or psychological treatment. It is designed to support the body's natural healing processes by promoting relaxation, emotional balance, and energetic alignment.

Please do not stop any prescribed medications or treatments unless advised by your doctor. Always seek guidance from a qualified healthcare professional regarding any medical or mental health concerns.

Reiki works best when integrated with your broader healing journey, and I’m here to support you alongside that care.

Do you offer Distance Reiki?

Yes. Reiki works beyond time and space, and distance sessions can be just as powerful as in-person. These sessions are offered worldwide via Zoom or audio call, with time afterward to reflect and integrate.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on your intention and how you’re feeling. One session can offer immediate clarity or relief, while regular sessions can support deeper healing and growth. We can chat about what feels right for you.

What’s your approach to Reiki?

My practice is trauma-informed, heart-led, and grounded in respect for your unique journey. I combine Reiki with deep listening, mindfulness and a gentle, compassionate presence, creating a safe space for you to feel, release, and return to yourself.

Do you follow a particular Reiki tradition or lineage?

I was trained in the Usui Reiki lineage, founded by Dr. Mikao Usui in Japan. I deeply respect the history and foundation of Usui Reiki, which offers a beautiful structure for healing.

At the same time, I honor the invitation many modern practitioners receive to blend traditional practice with intuitive guidance. While I may not use every classic hand position exactly, I trust my intuition and allow the energy to lead me to where healing is most needed in each session.

This approach creates a unique Reiki experience tailored specifically for you.

I’m new to this. Can I ask questions before booking?

Absolutely. I love connecting and answering questions. You're welcome to reach out via email and we can arrange a chat.

What should I wear to a Reiki session?

Wear something loose, comfortable, and easy to relax in — think yoga pants, soft fabrics, or whatever makes you feel cozy and calm. You’ll remain fully clothed throughout the session and can be covered with a blanket if you’d like. The goal is to help your body feel safe and supported.

Can I learn Reiki myself?

Absolutely! Anyone can learn Reiki and it is beautiful self-care tool.

Reiki Level 1 is the foundation of Reiki practice. A gentle and powerful initiation into working with universal life force energy. At this level, the focus is on self-healing and personal connection to energy (as well as practicing on friends, family, pets & plants).

I offer private Reiki classes and group session. Get in touch for more info.

What is Chronic Pain and Tension Myositis Syndrome (TMS)?

Chronic pain refers to ongoing physical pain that lasts for weeks, months, or even years. It often continues even when no clear physical injury or medical cause can be found.

TMS, also called Mindbody Syndrome, is a term popularised by Dr. John Sarno. It describes chronic pain that’s rooted in repressed emotions, stress, and nervous system dysregulation, rather than a structural issue in the body. TMS doesn’t mean the pain is “in your head”, the pain is very real — but it may be caused and maintained by the brain and nervous system as a form of protection.

Reiki and mind-body practices can gently support the release of stored tension and emotions that may be contributing to chronic pain. Learn more here.

What is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)?

OCD is a mental health condition involving unwanted, intrusive thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive mental or physical actions (compulsions) that are done to reduce anxiety or discomfort. OCD is often misunderstood as just being about cleanliness or order, but in reality, it can show up in many deeply distressing ways (e.g., fears about harm, morality, identity, relationships, etc.).

OCD is not a personality quirk — it’s a neurobiological and emotional condition that can feel consuming, exhausting, and isolating. Healing is absolutely possible, and support exists. Learn more here.

How are Chronic Pain and OCD linked?

OCD and chronic pain may seem unrelated, but they are often two expressions of the same root cause: a highly sensitive nervous system, a deep need for control or safety, and suppressed emotions or trauma stored in the body.

Both conditions are driven by fear-based brain loops — whether through intrusive thoughts or chronic pain signals — and can become habitual patterns wired into the brain and body.

From a holistic perspective, both OCD and chronic pain can:

  • Be attempts by the nervous system to protect you from emotional pain or past overwhelm

  • Involve parts of you trying to keep you “safe” or in control

  • Benefit from approaches that involve the mind, body, and spirit — including energy healing, nervous system work, and mindfulness

Reiki doesn’t “fix” OCD or chronic pain, but it can soften the nervous system, increase emotional safety, and support deep inner healing alongside therapeutic work. In this way, Reiki invites you to be your own best healer.
